What is a current use of gene therapy to manage a named form of cancer?
Answer by qetzal
There are no approved gene therapies for any use in the United States. All are experimental. In other words, gene therapy isn't currently used to manage any form of cancer. Management would imply that we know the gene therapy works, and we don't (yet).
One gene therapy has been approved for used in China, called Gendicine. It's based on an adenovirus carrying the human p53 gene. It seems to be primarily used for head and neck cancer.
A US company, Introgen, has been working on an extremely similar product called Advexin (also an adenovirus carrying p53), but it's unclear when or if it will ever get to market.
