Is it the nicotine in cigarettes that cause cancer?

Is it the nicotine in cigarettes that cause cancer?Or all the other chemicals in it? I know that most of the other chemicals do, but isn't nicotine just a stimulant? And does nicotine alone cause cancer?

Answer by Lola
Nicotine alone does not cause cancer. It is mostly caused by the tar and carbon monoxide. Nicotine only creates the addictive nicotine receptors in the brain that cause you to crave nicotine.

No, The Nicotine in cigarettes don't cause the cancer, that is what addicts you, some people will say that smoking is a nasty "habit" that you are brainwashed into believing that you have to have it. But in turn it is actually the nicotine that is addicting. Everyone has cancer cells in your body, but the other ingredients added to cigarettes like rat poison are what causes cancer from smoking :)

Nicotine is what causes a smoker's dependence on cigarettes. It alone does not cause cancer. The other chemicals you were talking about are what cause cancer. Nicotine is just responsible for the addictiveness.
