How can cancer come from an unknown source?I'm in shock !!!! I'm so worried !
I come home tonight and my husband out of the blue tells me his 58 yr old mom has cancer ! SHe has only had 2 real ilnesses serious enough to remember. Looking back it does seem a little odd that they have been over the past yr.
The 1st was she has been so short of breathe. They ran all kinds of test and said allergys and an autoimmune disorder. Then over the summer she got really sick at her stomach and had to go to the ER. They ended up saying it was her gall bladder and it was rotten which seemed odd to me !
Today my husband gets a call out of the blue. SHe told him she has cancer and they are trying to find the source through lots of tests.
How could they know she has it but not where it's coming from? What does all this really mean? Would this mean it's new or more serious?
She told him she feels better today so not to worry !?!
SHe did smoke for a few yrs but even quit that 30 yrs ago. Her dad passed of lung cancer which is scary. She may have a glass of wine every 6 months. Since she retired several yrs ago from teaching she stays on the couch unless it's to church, book club or to a sorority meeting. This has kept her busy but she recently took an offer to travel to schools throughout the state and give kids a test. Since the lung issue she hasn't been able to walk up and down her steps. Thank god the main stuffs on the main middle floor. She came to visit my husband and I in TX June and couldn't breathe well enough to go walk San Antonio. Going to the capitol in Austin was hard cause she would walk, rest, walk , rest. Most the time they just stayed on base at our place in the air conditioner, Winter and her medicine seemed to help the breathing little. Maybe half.

Sometimes, a cancer is discovered in an area it has spread to, such as a lymph node, just for example, before the place where it is started is discovered. Other tests, such as Imaging (MRI, CT scan) of the whole body, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (looking into the stomach) will probably pick up what organ the tumor started in. In some cases, the primary source is not found and it's called "cancer of unknown primary." It is best to know where it started because the kind of treatment depends on the type of cancer. But for specifics of your mother-in-law's case, she has to ask her doctor, or she can give permission for another family member to talk to her doctor. . Her illnesses in the past year are not necessarily related to her cancer. Hope she will be okay.

Science isn't up to par with cancer yet... That is why there is no easy cure...
Genes and drugs play a large factor in it.... Also diet and physical exercise matter...
Stress can also contribute to cancer

Since Cancer isn't an illness in the sense of bacteria or a virus, but rather your own cells growing out of control, it can sometimes happen on its own without any external or genetic reasons. I had cancer last year, and I'm one of only two people in the family who have ever had it. My doctor told me it could never have been prevented, and no change of lifestyle would prevent it returning if it were to ever return.
It was simply a case that my cells malfunctioned and caused a malignant mass in my body.
