My mother is suffering from multiple myeloma. Before it was diagnosed, her vertebrae C2 through C5 had got?

My mother is suffering from multiple myeloma. Before it was diagnosed, her vertebrae C2 through C5 had got?affected, and one day she got paralysed in both upper and lower extremities. She was found to have nerve damaged by a cyst at the above mentioned areas(C2 through C5 or C7). An ACD-AFP was performed and the cyst was operated and removed and when biopsied was diagnosed with MM. After the operation she has got 60% strength in her upper extremities and 25% strength in her lower extremities but is unable to step even a single step. She has completed her radiation and is yet to have her fourth cycle of chemo (cyclophosphamide + prednisolone). Is there chance for her to walk on her own? or is it not possible for those patients who have got their nerve damaged in the cervical area. (she is able to sit for more than an hour while helping her to sit on the bed)? What type of treatment should be given other than chemo and whom shall be consulted in this regard? pls.

You need to ask a professional about this and possibly consult a Physical Therapist. They will know more about the condition of her health, her emotional status and how much she can take. No one here can give you accurate information on the information you gave without seeing her and her condition and her emotional status. IF she is not emotionally capable of more then she won't do it no matter what they say.

AND...I know from experience...doctors don't know anything. The mind of people and their willingness and courage make them accomplish FAR more than they can say.

Talk to the doctor and ask for a second opinion at a rehab hospital or something. With all her chemo etc..it might not be possible right now...she might be weak from that and will be weak for a while. Now in a bout 6 months she might be in a totally different place...stronger and more hopeful.

She could also be depressed...and that should be addressed and not just think it medical problems are standing in the way. A positive mind is always better and you can be depressed when sick and not know it and blame it on the illness. Please have her looked at for that too. Many people are depressed and think it is due to medical situations and not from just being a sick and that it might be temporary......but it isn't.
