Why won't my finger stop bleeding after 6 weeks?About 6 weeks ago I noticed a little bump on the bend of a finger where it gets in the way. Looked like the skin got thin and a bump like a poison ivy bump showed up, although it is definately not such a thing. It's been bleeding ever since. I put bandaids on it, I put triple anti-biotic on it, I use hydrogen peroxide, and sometimes it looks like it is scabbing over.... but it always starts bleeding again. I was on heavy doses of motrin during this time, but stopped taking it hoping it would help. It has not. Recently had my annual physical and bloodwork looked a little 'funny.' red and white blood cell counts were low, and also hemoglobin and hematocrit low too. low anion gap and high monocytes. BUN is a bit high too. I don't know what this all means, but suspect my mild anemia is behind the lack of clotting and healing. I suppose it is time to see the doctor and see what he makes of it, but if anyone has some thoughts, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.
OK - the motrin was for plantar fasciitis in my right foot. No doubt due to over-use and heavy weight (I weighed 252 back then and played tennis frequently) 800 mg 3x a day. My bloodwork was done prior to my use of Motrin and the prior year, the red and white blood cells were low, but not as bad as this year. My monocytes were high last year and are much higher this year. After doing some research online re: low anion gap sure looks like multiple myeloma (blood cancer) is a possibility, but I don't want to run down that road too quickly. Right now I've applied a honey poultice since I've heard that may stifle infections. The size of the sore is about 8mm in diameter. I appreciate the many thoughtful replies that I've already gotten so quickly.

take half an iron pill every day and try liquid bandaid and butterfly closures . You'll find them in the first aid aisle. Were you taking motrin for pain? ( stupid question) try massage.

I suggest you ask the doctor about your results and what they mean. I am surprised they didn't follow up with you with an appointment. I am anemic and I have a hard time healing myself. I will get a scratch and it will keep breaking open and bleeding. Check with your doctor.

sounds like it's time to get that rechecked and find out about those lab results (what were your platelet count?) Anemia causes low RBCs and their indices (Hgb/Hct) but not white cells and platelets. If you were taking a lot of Motrin you could have GI oozing (and a low RBC). Clotting factors are often impaired in liver disorders (the liver manufactures most of them) and protein disorders, monocytes are increased in mono for one, wounds that do not heal are usually a red flag...so I think a revisit to this is in order!
