Low HGB HCT MCV MCH - Normal RBC?? What is it???


Low HGB HCT MCV MCH - Normal RBC?? What is it???mid-30s obese white male presents to ED with complaint of generalized weakness, fatigue, dizzy - comes in with BP 125/62, pulse 80, SpO2 96, no fever. Lungs clear as well as chest film. Pt states Dx with anterior uveitis, first onset 3 weeks ago. Fatigue an dweakness present on and off over the few weeks since initial Dx of uveitis. Labs as follows:
WBC 9.7
NEUT 69.1
LYMPH 18.2
MONO 8.2
EO 4.1
BASO 0.4

RBC 4.76
HGB 12.0 **LOW**
HCT 36.0 **LOW**
MCV 75.6 **LOW**
MCH 25.3 **LOW**
MCHC 33.5
RDW 14.6
PLATELETS 333

GLUCOSE 95
BUN 10
CREATININ 1.2
CALCIUM 9.0
SODIUM 140
POTASSIUM 4.2
CHLORIDE 105
CO2 27.1
ANION GAP 7.9

Fluids for the hour or so in ED and discharged with insreuctions for f/u with PCP. BP on discharge 125/65.

What do you think the the Pt has? Is the uveitis secondary to anything? What are the likely auto-immune possibilites?

The 'low' values aren't really that low. they are really borderline.
I would say the patient just has uveitis.
these low levels may be normal for that patient.

as to the autoimmune possibilities, uveitis can itself be autoimmune
