Can a bone scan pick up on dead cancer cells after one has been treated for bone cancer?

Can a bone scan pick up on dead cancer cells after one has been treated for bone cancer? My daughter was just treated with chemotherapy for breast cancer that spread to the bones. Stage111. She just had another bone scan and it looks the same. I have read that a bone scan also will detect dead cancer cells. Is this true?

Bone scans do not detect dead cancer cells. Cells that die are rapidly broken down. The scans can distinguish areas where cancer is growing form areas where it is not growing, and it can also pick up dead areas of the bone (because the minerals do not break quickly). There should not be any dead bone areas resulting from chemotherapy.
