What is the role of the Mitochondria in a cancer cell?


What is the role of the Mitochondria in a cancer cell?I know that everything in the cancer cell "dies" except for the Mitochondria and that the mitochondria is the source of all of most of the power and energy in a cell. But is that all there is to it? please help !

Cancer cells do not die; quite the contrary, they MULTIPLY and in SIZE and NUMBER.

Mitochondria, as you mentioned, are the powerhouses of cells. They contain the enzymatic machinaey required to produce ATP, the cells energy currency. This process is mediated by the electron transport chain.
