Is it true that if you have cancer behind your eye, your eye goes white in a photograph?

Is it true that if you have cancer behind your eye, your eye goes white in a photograph?I heard about it, and i saw my mates picture and his left eye in the photograph had a sort of bold white reflection, and when i asked him he said he HAD cancer in his left eye....has this been proved?

In children there is a type of cancer called Retinoblastoma and one way to discover it is when a photograph is taken and the flash results in one eye normal and the other with a white pupil. This isn't foolproof though and it is common to have a little white from the flash. If you have a very young child and this occurs more than a few times it is wise to mention to the pediatrician for further investigation.

Simple explanation can be found on this site:

Daisy's Eye Cancer

So, yes it is true . . but in general this is a disease of babies and young children.

  1. Thanks for sharing this informative video. Few children are born with a faulty retinoblastoma gene that they inherited from one of their parents. Eye cancer in children is hard to treat.
